Some Big Firms Still Doing Well as Baker & McKenzie Makes Big Additions to Partner Ranks
We’ve noted that continued global economic sluggishness may be catching up with law firms in Asia. some of whom have been cutting their partner ranks,. But apparently some firms are doing just fine. Baker & McKenzie falls into that category as they have just added more than 60 partners worlwide:
“The Firm also reported that it has added more than 50 lateral partners in key practice areas and jurisdictions over the past year. These partners support clients in corporate, M&A, compliance, securities and tax, among other practices. Growth also came from the opening of new offices in Johannesburg, South Africa; Istanbul, Turkey; and Doha, Qatar.

We highlighted the APAC appointments because we are APAC focused, but also because the APAC partnership promotions accounted for nearly half of the firm’s promotions worldwide, proving that despite some slow down, the Asian market is still experiencing a growth period and we expect that therefore recruitment will continue to be more active than in Western markets.
